What is the difference between white corn tortillas and yellow corn tortillas?

White corn tortillas are softer and have a more delicate, neutral flavor—perfect for tacos, enchiladas, and dishes where you want the fillings to shine. Yellow corn tortillas are slightly firmer with a richer, toasted corn taste, making them ideal for tostadas, quesadillas, and recipes that need a tortilla with a bit more structure. At La Campera, both are made from high-quality corn and traditional processes, so you get authentic flavor either way. For more information, visit our corn tortillas page.

Are tostadas and totopos the same thing?

They’re made from similar ingredients, but they aren’t the same. Tostadas are whole, flat, crispy tortillas—perfect for topping with proteins, vegetables, and salsas. Totopos are cut triangles (similar to chips) used for snacking, dipping, or serving alongside dishes like ceviche and guacamole. Both start with quality corn tortillas, but they’re shaped and used differently. Visit our Totopos & Tostadas page for product information.

What type of masa is best for tamales?

For tamales, the best option is a coarser, tamal-style masa that has the right balance of texture and moisture. It’s designed to hold fillings and steam evenly without becoming dense or dry. La Campera’s masa for tamales is made specifically for this purpose—it spreads easily, cooks consistently, and delivers that traditional tamal softness and flavor.
